PERIPHERA

A Group Exhibition of Contemporary Realist Paintings
Opening Reception Friday, April 19, 6-9 PM

Galerie Lucida is pleased to present Periphera, an exhibition of Contemporary Realism by local and regional artists who convene periodically to paint “en plein air,” yet maintain distinct and diverse studio practices. The show runs from April 19 through June 1, with a reception for the artists on Friday, April 19, from 6 PM to 9 PM, in conjunction with Garden State Art Weekend.

Periphera upends the widely held view that Contemporary Realism is a static, straightforward depiction of reality by exposing the fluid, expressive nature of the movement.

Participating artists Jordan Baker, Kathleen Beausoleil, Charis J. Carmichael Braun, Brooks Frederick, Kristin Künc, Lisa Lebofsky, JaFang Lu, Richard T. Scott, Hyeseung Song, and Patricia Watwood embrace a common discipline, yet their approach to the medium and interpretations of subject are markedly distinct.

With the presentation of paintings representative of each artist’s personal vision and inspired use of traditional techniques, along with comparative groupings of small works from their collective excursions, Periphera straddles the porous edge where private space meets common ground and offers a multivalent glimpse into Contemporary Realist imagery.
