What is an Art Salon?
Our Monthly Art Salon provides a space for artists to create conversations, share ideas, provide feedback, and encourage experimentation in an informal setting, designed to support one another and build community.

Are you looking for guidance or feedback on a current work in progress, looking to meet other artists within the community, or would like to better acquaint yourself with the gallery? If so, this is a great opportunity for you to share your work and ideas with us, in a supportive environment.

Our next Art Salon will be announced soon

What participants can expect:
Depending on the number of participants, we will either work as a single group or break off into smaller groups to share artwork.
Participants will take turns talking about their artwork, and will then be given time to be provided feedback from the group.

Presenter Responsibilities:

Be ready to talk about your artwork; provide a brief introduction of yourself and the type of artwork you make, and then describe the particular work you brought with you.
Be mindful of your time. We will be keeping track of time to ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate.
Think about what you want feedback on: do you want general feedback on your work? Are you having difficulty with a particular part within your work? Let the group know what you are looking for in terms of feedback.

Understand that constructive criticism is a helpful way to develop and grow your art practice; someone may not share your personal aesthetic choices or quite understand your work. This is an excellent time for you to consider outside perspectives on your work. As an artist, you can consider the feedback provided as a helpful new tool in your toolbox, or you may disagree with it. These are your judgments for your practice.

Responsibilities for Providing Feedback:

Provide Constructive Criticism that is meant to give specific, actionable suggestions to help someone improve their practice or help correct issues within their work.
Ask the presenter questions if you do not quite understand something.
Allow members in your group to provide feedback along with you; your opinion and perspective will not be the only one within the group.
Be mindful of your language; you are capable of providing feedback without denigrating other artists or their artwork. We all have room to improve upon our skill level and the themes within our work which is why you have joined the art salon. Instead of telling someone, that their work looks sloppy, you could instead state, “I notice the structure of the work is very loose and appears rushed. Is this intentional? Why?”

Once we have finished providing one another feedback, we will spend the rest of our time, getting to know one another.

The Galerie Lucida Art Salon will convene Monthly. Be sure to join our mailing list for information about upcoming salons!
