Acrylic and Gouache on Strathmore Paper

Pat Dunigan is a Monmouth County based artist with a background in advertising and commercial art. Her own personal art practice began with collage, and evolved into graphic paintings. She has a love for graphic shapes, vibrant colors and large sweeping brush strokes. The “architecture”, the shapes and colors, work to bring them to life in unexpected ways. Dunigan’s joyful abstract compositions appear as collaged works of loosely arranged, colorful pieces of paper. However, upon further inspection we see the application of what might be called a primitive trompe l’oeil technique where carefully considered shapes are plotted, sketched, and painted, often with the appearance of torn edges. While some compositions are sparsely populated and delicately arranged, others present a wildly unstable collision of color and shape.
